Achievements

The GEP will has sent 75 student volunteers to two target villages as part of its Summer Volunteer Program . Library volunteers will have developed six community libraries in the Central Region, open daily and stocked with a totalof 35,000 quality books. Volunteers for the AIDS Awareness project haveconducted various educational seminars in 120 villages (distributing AIDS literature and thousands of condoms), hosted four AIDS conferences for teachers and health educators in our regions of operation, and piloted a radio program on Radio One, Cape Coast. For the student volunteers, the Summer Volunteer Program provides unforgettable exposure to the culture and challenges of life in a developing nation, and offers a concrete example of the capacity- and limits- of the individual in bringing about systemic change. The GEP has also produced an educational film about AIDS, meant for a national Ghanaian audience, currently to be released in the summer of 2003. For its innovative and cross-cultural approach to Ghanaian educational development, the GEP has received the personal commendation of several members of the Ghanaian Government. Additional programs and achievements are listed on this site in the What We Do section.
